Space
이번 여인영의 개인전은 서울이란 도시와 그안에 거주하는 개인과의 소통안에서 다양한 현실과 다면적 자아를 선보인다. 작가는 지난 2년간 서울이란 도시와 상호 작용하며 여러가지 유형의 인터뷰를 실현화 했다. 이번 개인전에서 선보이는 4개의 작업은 개인 1명, 3명, 15명 그리고 서울이란 도시를 페인팅, 퍼포먼스, 설치 및 영상으로 재해석 한다.
'비쥬얼 인터뷰': 15개인 비쥬얼 인터뷰를 통해 특정한 15명의 '자아' 또는 '선택' 에 대한 관찰과 분석을 한다. 개인의 시간과 공간을 형성하여 그 개인의 6가지 면을 본다. 인터뷰 당시의 시간과 공간안에 그 개인의 가장 솔직한 '자아'를 표현한다. 이 비쥬얼 인터뷰를 통해 또다른 시간과 공간안에 이 15명의 '자아' 가 재해석 된다.
'관': 개인의 공간을 만든다. 개인의 최소에서 최고단위의 여러가지 요소들이 쌓이고 쌓여, 그녀를 보호하며 구속하는 관이 된다. 실의 선들은 혼란을 일으키기도 하며, 질서 정연하기도 한 인생의 요소가 된다. 감성적이며 유기적인 몸과 이성적이며 기하학적인 형태들이 서로 교류하며 소통한다. 몸과 빛의 유연성과 움직임으로 한 구성원의 혼란, 감정, 압박, 모순 등 인간의 내부와 외부를 들락 날락한다.
'a triptych': a triptych 퍼포먼스는 3명의 개인이 동일한 사회 구조안에 자아를 재정립 하는 과정을 그린다. 3단계의 구조물과 3단계의 벽면을 대상으로 3명의 개인이 다차원적인 현실과 접하는 3번의 점을 찍는다.
'a map': old 와 new 가 서로 얽히고 섥힌 서울의 도시 랜드 스케이프의 재해석이다. 오래된 건물 구조와 새로운 설치 및 벽화의 조화를 만들어낸다. 이상화하는 rhizome의 구조를 매핑해서 여러가지 old 와 new한 면의 연결을 통해 여러가지 카타고리의 사람들이 소통할수 있는 메게체의 역할을 할 수 있는 구조물을 형상화 했다.
Space is an ongoing project series by Seoul based artist InYoung Yeo, which examines both the city of Seoul and its people in its current space. For the last two years, Yeo has created diverse spaces to explore the minds of multiple ‘I’s or ‘ones.’ This exhibition features painting, installation, and performance, incorporating the participation of between one, three, and fifteen individuals, and finally of the city of Seoul itself.
Visual Interview: 15 separate visual Interviews explore and analyze the different ‘self’ or ‘choices’ individuals make with a group of dynamic 15 specific persons. Creating individual spaces to interpret 6 different aspects of each person, is solely to accept fully each person for their own individuality in its most honest state of being in that time and space. Then taking these visual interpretations to rearrange in another time and space to adapt and alter accordingly yet sustaining its core ‘self’s.
Gwan: A contained space is specifically built for an individual in Seoul. The textured thread of diverse life experiences protect yet repress the individual. The interaction between the emotional organic shapes and the logical geometrical shapes move continuously, drawing and recording dynamic chaos and balance. The individual moves in and out of oneself through different states of being expressing its emotional, mental, physical and metaphysical process.
a triptych: a triptych is a performance of three individuals defining 'self' inside and outside the societal entity and categories. Three performers, three boxes and three surfaces interact with each other. The three meet at three different points, the tangible point of society, the intangible point of self and finally in between tangibility and intangibility. It is a play of multiple realities and selves.
a Map: A Map is an abstraction of the busy urban landscape, creating a site-specific project with multiple surfaces from existing structures to installation pieces that connect the old and the new. This project intends to serve as a medium for interaction and communication amongst the different categories of people mapping an idealized landscape of a rhizome structure.
